Chinese New Year in Thailand
Chinese New Year is celebrated in Thailand as about 10 percent of the population of Thailand has Chinese roots. It is one colorful celebration as parades with big red dragons pass through the streets. Family members visit each other and give each other envelopes with money.
Chinese New Year is celebrated as a family affair, a time of reunion and thanksgiving. The celebration is traditionally highlighted with a religious ceremony given in honor of Heaven and Earth, the gods of the household and the family ancestors. During the Chinese New Year the Chinese restaurants are full. The Chinese New Year has not fixed date, it is celebrated between the end of January and beginning of February.
